Breathing Correctly

Exhale on exertion, is the axiom of the weight-lifter. In other words, exhale on the hard part. Take that deep breath, and release the breath as you lift.

For yoga breathing is reversed.  You breathe in on the hard part, breathe out on the easy… on the relaxation. Breathing out is for the letting-go. Practice this during your workouts until breathing correctly becomes instinctual.

Either way, you breathe. Don’t hold your breath. If you hold your breath you’re not going to last long, or ever discover greater capacity. But if you breath well you’ll find you can last much Breathing-Exercisemuch longer, burn more calories, and expand your cardiovascular strength in leaps and bounds.

And! And! It alters your breathing for the better in regular life. You’ve learned to breath more economically. And that knowledge of breathing assists you in averting stress during rush-hour traffic, or when lugging groceries up the stairs….

Come learn to breath at yoga this Friday. And Abs on Saturday. Those are the last 2 classes of the year. The classes start up again with Weight-lifting Tuesday on Jan. 2.

Ciao, Pietro.

Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks

blog-dog-gazeSkip breakfast, and extend your lunch a little later into the afternoon.

People say all kinds of stuff they believe to be true about their dietary regime. But I can’t help but wonder if what they say is really true or something they’ve been telling themselves for years and even decades. And therefore making them stuck in their ways, and yes indeed, old.

They try skipping breakfast. And amazingly they survive. In fact, they thrive. Look up the benefits of fasting: lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, reduce the risk of diabetes, reboot the immune system

In conjunction with anaerobic exercise, it gets you cut for real. As cut as you want to be. And by naturally producing HGH (Human Growth Hormone) you get more muscular. Intermittent Fasting, at whatever level you want to do it, is the missing component of your workout regime.

Fasting is a learned skill with almost mystical powers, in my opinion. Said to have efficacy in dealing with all kinds of cancers. It doesn’t cost anything. In fact, it cost less than what you’re presently doing.

For more details on ways to negotiate this diet, email me or come by yoga and abs this weekend. Yoga tonight! Abs Sat morning!

Ciao, Pietro
