the cornerstone

Everyone wants to score the big goal. But, as any coach will tell you, it’s good responsible defense that wins games and championship. Only then, when the defense is well established and dominate, can the offense shine.

The same goes for your body. Don’t worry about show-muscles. Flexibility, supple joints, mobility in the knees, hips, lower back. These are the assets you may not notice at first glance, but they are the very foundation of a balanced workout regime.

What is manifested in the body becomes an integral part of our lives. Strength, adaptability, resilience are the cornerstone of success in the physical world. Facilitated by yoga these qualities are transcendental. They become who you are.

See you at yoga this Friday. Ciao, Pietro

Ian Elliot Leading The Way May 1st

Don’t worry. You won’t be expected to do this pose first time out.

Eight Angle Pose

I chose Ian for his depth of yogic knowledge and experience. Someone to counter-balance my somewhat barbaric yet pragmatic techniques.

He brings to the table  a real expertise in many traditions of yoga, including Vinyasa, Restorative, Ashtanga. And his classes are not only deeply meditative, but leave you with a little reminder the next day that a transformation is really happening in your body.

Side-angle Pose

In 2004, Ian returned from a 3-year stint in the Philippines as a DJ. He had a back injury that was seriously troubling him. And a desire to delve into yoga, and walk-the-talk of a healthy lifestyle.

He got certified a Octopus Garden. And began work with some of the most acclaimed instructors in Toronto. As you can see from the pictures, his back isn’t bothering him any more.

Ian lives in the Bloor Village area, and teaches yoga out of the private studio in his home.

Ian Cooper

If you can’t do a proper deep squat because of tight hips. Or you do vigorous classes like ABS or SPIN but can’t switch tracks into stretching. You’re making a big mistake. I’ve been training for 35 years.  I’ve seen the consequence of that attitude hundreds of times. Don’t play Russian Roulette with your body.

Or maybe you’ve been doing yoga for years. And just looking for an interesting class to unwind after a busy week.

Come to yoga with Ian on Friday, May 1. At 730 pm. Just $6 with 10-pack. Includes a delicious smoothie. And good company.  Ciao, Pietro

The Resurrection Of Friday Night Yoga

With a gentle caress. And a sting.

Pietro in a bad mood

If you take ABS CLASS you already know the benefits of working the core. The targeted trimming and cutting up of the mid-section. A massaging of the organs of the underbelly that promotes longevity more than generally understood.

And you know something is happening from that ginger trek to the chamber pot first thing every morning after. Oh yeah ouch! The transformation becomes very tangible. Look what that bald-headed mother did to me.

You may even find you’re getting lean but too tight from the weight-lifting component, dangerously so. To prevent those nagging injuries, to raise your strength-potential, or even just for the feel-good sensuality and fluidity of the joints and spine, you may find that the flexibility component of your workout regime can no longer be ignored. Don’t wait too long and risk the permanent degeneration of arthritis.

Undo the creeping rigidity blamed on aging. Bring back that youthful suppleness. It doesn’t matter if this is the final destination on your workout journey, or your entry point, it’s a crossing you must make sooner or later. With wondrous rewards.

Extended Side Angle Pose

Friday Night Yoga returns on May 1, 730 pm. The talent leading the class is veteran IAN ELLIOT. He brings depth and versatility to the floor. I’ll be alternating every other Friday with Ian. You’ve seen my hard skills, I have soft skills too.

Join us for the resurrection of Friday Night Yoga. On May 1, 730 pm. Please RSVP.

Your friend and ally in the trenches, Pietro
