Your Favourite Personal Trainer

Don’t underestimate how adverse weather wrecks havoc on our bodies.  The muscles, the entire skeletal system, constricts in an attempt to escape the assault.

The joints –  knees, hips, lower back, whatever your weakness – screeches in agony.   The calves cramp. The jaw clenches.  The stubborn agony of tennis and golfer’s elbow a nagging reminder of getting older.

What’s the solution? Believe me, I’m  not saying this just because I happen to be hosting Very Warm Yoga tonite. Give your muscles, and your soul, the deep penetrating heat of hot yoga. This will give more relief to ailments of extreme weather than any passive therapy.

And, more importantly, administered by Olia. Olia makes you hurt. She has her own unique style. For one thing, she doesn’t use a mat. She wanders between casting her poses. And transports you with her verbal journey.

Which means I can get an extra mat in. You should come.

Ciao, you’re favourite personal trainer, Pietro

Shifting Ad Infinitum

Life isn’t static. It a constant search for balance. Your priorities shift ad infinitum.

Yoga develops flexibility – both physically and psychologically. Flexibility, fluidity, the ability to go with the flow and adapt to change, is thee most important tool you can have in your skill set.

And it is the very essence of youth.  But it doesn’t belong exclusively to the young. Come to Hot Yoga tomorrow nite, and embrace your youth.

Ciao, Pietro

My Alter-ego

I got 3 lbs heavier over the holidays. And that was with hitting the Metamucil and hot toddies heavy-handedly almost every nite.

Late Friday I was 187. The next morning after abs, 185. Back to my heavy regiment of spin class whittling me down.

Exercise, you’ve got to. After 50, not-exercising is the equivalent of smoking a pack a day. How many people start working out at 50, 60 or 70?

Very few. The body is amazingly forgiving. Smokers, it’s not too late. But the fact is the body is less forgiving as we age. Working out preserves you.

Try hot yoga every Wednesday and Friday nights 7:30 at Panacea Studio. Abs on Saturday at 10.

Ciao, me alterego, Pietro

Feeling Fat?

Well you are fat. It’s not your imagination. And it doesn’t get any easier. Be real with yourself. Going into denial only makes matters worse.

A personal trainer is always weighing people, and assessing their body fat percentage People are almost always shocked that they weigh as much as they do. Somehow, despite the obvious, we fool ourselves but nobody else.

One approach is to find people even fatter to “support” us by lying to us and telling us we’re not fat. Or we can tell ourselves we actually prefer to be that way. But without much self-esteem depression always lurks.

The body degenerates quickly, and the consequences become more dire as we age. But the process of regeneration is also rapid. Just by making a consistent effort we start to feel better about ourselves.

Time to get back on track. I’m here to help. Hot yoga is back this Friday, the 4th. And abs on Saturday.

Ciao, Pietro
