My Beautiful Friends

Come join us on Facebook Live tonight for Friday Night Yoga, 730 pm. And  tomorrow for Saturday Abs Class, 10 am.

I integrate targeted stretching into my yoga classes. Without diminishing the meditative perspective.

Due to age and body type, perhaps, I require a concentrated effort on the spine, hips, hamstrings, knees, groin, etc.. I lure you in. You’re mood shifts. And together we apply that calm focused awareness into  areas of stubborn resistance.

Yoga is a ritual for getting out of your head. You may come for the de-stressing more than joint flexibility. At a time like this, stuck indoors, rituals for detaching from your thoughts are vital.Image (2)

Exercise is meditation. If you’re moving without awareness you’re really just going through the motions.

Getting stiff? Come to Facebook Live for Friday Night Yoga, 730 pm. Getting big in the belly even though you couldn’t possibly be pregnant? Come to Saturday Abs Class, 10 am.

Yes, my router finally came. The wifi is better than ever.

Ciao, Pietro

The Seductive Allure

Of yoga.

Come join us online at Facebook Live for Friday Night Yoga, 730 pm. To get there just search my name, Peter Gault. And Saturday Abs Class, 10 am. No charge.

These two classes are the perfect foil. They represent opposites. Yoga is primarily based on the pleasure principle. Those long extended poses can go from pleasure to pain and back again. Or vise versa.

I like to set the stage.Clean, diffuse with lavender, lower the lights. This is the time to forget the debate.  Yoga isn’t about thinking. Anybody can do that. It about releasing judgement, and fostering awareness of your body and beyond.

And you get a deep medicinal stretch. You curl, arch, twist the spine. You open the hips, groin, knees. You create space in the joints. And you do all this by utilizing gravity, and exerting yourself as little as possible.

In Abs Class, I  beat you up, strategically. Don’t expect to be able to do it perfectly your first try. Be patient, make smart decisions. Cheat when you have to. This is something you have to work up to. It will happen. Suddenly, you’ll be able to do the whole thing impeccably.

See you Friday Night. And Saturday morning. Love your neighbour, from a distance:)

Ciao, Pietro

Classes Going Online

Yes, yes, I hear yah. Classes are going online.

As of this Saturday, March 28th @ 10 am EST Live on Facebook. Abs Class is free… So if you haven’t already set up your at-home workout space now’s the time. A laptop connected to your TV would be ideal. Or just a computer position on the floor so you can see it from the your mat. Or prop up an IPad.
Equipment-wise only a mat is required. If you have a dumbbell keep it handy but its not necessary. Abs Class usually includes 3 sets of squats but instead we’ll be doing Isometric Lunges. The smoothie afterwards is up to you.

And we will battle the bulge. All that comfort food is starting to show. Time to do something about it.

Any questions don’t hesitate to ask. Ciao, Pietro

Bikini Season

Bikini season is around the corner.  Or should I say Brazilian Thong Season?  How are you feeling about your body?candice-swanepoel-stills-in-bikini-at-a-beach-in-brazil-2017-12-22-07

The body tends to insulate in cold weather. It gets flabby, pasty. You avoid displaying your body publicly. You don’t go near the beach, pool, hot tub, undermining your enjoyment of life.

Unless, of course, you’re been coming to Abs Class religiously. In which case you’re significantly better off. You tend towards your optimum. You may still need to darken, tweak your diet to get at those hard-to-get at places.

And as vain as that might be, there’s nothing like it for your confidence.  And your health. So be vain. Join us for Saturday Abs Class.

And Friday Night yoga, Weightlifting Tuesdays.

Ciao, Pietro

Back For More

It’s amazing the jolt you get from a week of relaxation in the sun. Physically, mentally, in terms of your immune system, you feel like you have almost supernatural endurance.

Provided, of course, you’re coming out a vigorous daily regiment of workout classes and exercise. If you’re a fitness instructor vacations are a time to step off the hamster wheel. And the energy usually reserved for repairing the body floods back into the reserve bank.

You come back stronger. Look at Sidney Crosby’s triumphant return from injury this season. He’s on fire from the rest he was forced to Sidneytake. So much so his team goes a winning streak. One year he won the Stanley Cup due to a timely injury, teeing him up for the playoffs.

Not to suggest I’m Sidney Crosby. Though the similarities are obvious:) All the best developments in my game have come directly following a break in the fray, and returning with a fresh perspective.

Come re-create yourself tonight at Weight-lifting Tuesdays. Don’t forget Friday Night Yoga, you need that. Make the most neglected part of you body the primary focus @ Saturday Abs.

Ciao, Pietro

Hibernation

Sleep is elusive to many of us normal neurotic urbanites. It may even require artificial pharmaceutical inducement . Or something better health-wise, some vigorous biological function to relax the nervous system. Wink, wink.

Whatever it takes. Now’s the time to indulge those extra Zzzs. Roll over, go back to sleep. Don’t even set the alarm unless absolutely necessary. Sleep is what your body needs to stand up against the invading horde of pathogens.

Make like a bear and hibernate. It’s your best defense.  Fortify your immune system with sleep and rest. And after this weekend is the perfect time because there’s no classes next week.

Don’t sleep in this Saturday morning, remember. Classes are on. Friday Yoga celebrates the end of Dry January, hallelujah, then Saturday Abs. The next class after the break is February 11, 14, 15.

Stay healthy, Pietro

Finding Adventure Within Structure

Complacency is the real enemy. Complacency in terms of fidelity and variety of your exercise regime.

Image result for picture of explore adventure

It’s always easier to roll over, and go back to sleep. Or get stuck in a specific routine long-past its expiry date.  It’s called plateauing. Fossilizing into a dead thing rather than re-creating yourself into a living growing organism.

That’s why its always a good idea to incorporate a new pose into every Yoga Class, every Abs Class. Or an experimental movement along with the usual go-tos. You adopt a pattern. And then the pattern begins to morph

This spirit of adventure keeps us young. This is how we stay interesting to our children. Not by becoming habituated and predictable in our thinking, diet, political opinions, whatever it is.

Unlock your potential. It starts with the body. But it includes the mind. See you at class.

No classes the first week in February. So get them in while you can.

Ciao, Pietro

Septuagenarian Frailty

Retirement brings a major adjustment in priorities. The primary focus and the reason for getting up in the morning is your workout. This becomes the meaning of your existence. Your passion.

To do otherwise makes no sense. Whether you’re young or old find friends who share this overriding value. Finally, you got a few bucks in your pocket. Figure out ways to stick around long enough to spend it.

If you don’t want to become a frail septuagenarian you have to do resistance training. This week at Weight-lifting Tuesdays we did Sumo Deadlifts. Don’t let the name scare you. My butt is still sore. Sore in a good way.

You have to do yoga. Better to start sooner than later. Because people can get stuck in their ways when they get old. And here at Studio 2388 we all about never getting old. Do Abs Saturday because you’ll never have perfect back without working your core.

NO CLASSES NEXT WEEK. Sorry, my beautiful friends, you have to fend for yourself… think I don’t notice everyone is thrilled to see me go on vacation?

So get it done this weekend. Yoga, Abs is on. Next class after that is Yoga on Friday, November 15

 Ciao, Pietro

A Must For Your Back

Again and again you see people living a life of limited mobile, discomfort, and downright pain. Due to a problem that could have been rectified in 3 weeks, or at most 6 weeks, but now has become a chronic injury.

Doing nothing is the worst than in engaging risky activity prematurely. Not that I suggest either. After a relatively brief downtime, depending on the seriousness of the injury, and of course, consulting your doctor, you begin therapy. The therapy morphs into a weight-training program that turns your weakness into the strongest part of your body.hugging knees

If you have sciatica or its tendencies, you need to come to Yoga Class this Friday. It’s important part of what you’re body needs to learn to fix spinal irregularities. Stiff neck, hips, knees, shoulders, wrists, ankles, almost anything. Don’t believe anyone who tells you there’s nothing do about it.

The recipe for a perfect back is 2-fold: stretching and strengthening. You have to curl, arch and twist the back. And you have to do back-strengthening exercises to build up the muscles around the injury. This recipe has been forged in the furnace of experience. And my back, with its own up-and-down history, is perhaps the best proof of its success.

Yoga brings harmony to the body and mind. Weight-lifting contours the body like nothing else. And Abs Class puts the focus on the hitherto most neglected part of the body.

Ciao, Pietro
